Almighty Lord, I have known the effectiveness of tears; for they snatched Hezekiah from the doors of death, and saved the sinning woman from her chronic iniquities. And as for the Publican they justified him more than the Pharisee. Wherefore, I implore Thee to number me among them, and have mercy upon me. (First Vesperal Doxasticon in Tone 8)

As this is the week of the Publican and Pharisee, we do not fast this Wednesday and Friday. The fasts are suspended in order for us to affirm that strict adherence to the fasts, important as they are, does not in itself save us. Humility before God and our fellow man brings salvation.

Each Antiochian parish receives $700 in camp scholarship money yearly from the Order of St. Ignatius. (Note: For our children, this would be scholarship money for St. Nicholas Camp in Southern California.) The money will be split between the number of applicants in our parish. Request forms filled out by Fr. Andrew have to be in by March 1, 2012 and there are no exceptions. Please speak with Fr. Andrew or call the Church Office ASAP if you are interested. In addition, once your scholarship has been confirmed, you must register for camp by May 15 or the scholarship is forfeited.

"Do not establish your previously committed sins in your soul by thinking about them so that they not be repeated in you. Be assured that they were forgiven you from the time that you gave yourself to God and to repentance. In that, do not doubt." -– St. Anthony the Great

"During the dark ages of Orthodox Theology, our Church survived because of the richness of her liturgical life. If you understand our various liturgical services, you will understand the whole Theology of the Orthodox Church. While others talk about liturgical poverty and liturgical renewal, as Orthodox, we must concentrate our efforts on liturgical understanding." -- An Orthodox Hierarch
